Deconstructing Kerr-ida

John Kerry is channeling Jacques Derrida! Now we know who those foreign leaders are that are pushing JK for President: they're French deconstructionists. Kinda makes sense, in a pomo sort of way.

As a followup, it intriguing to ponder that Berkeley philosopher John Searle has criticized Derrida for his "distressing penchant for saying things that are obviously false." Yet another remarkable parallel.

Couldn't resist. There are 4 engine companies and 2 ladders in our building putting out a very tough electrical fire. Luckily, not in our line of apartments, but there is a lot of smoke.

Super Tuesday

I've already voted today for John Edwards, for the reasons outlined in this article by Joel Rogers from The Nation (see, that loony rag is still good for something).

However, I disagree strongly with Rogers' analysis of Iraq (you've probably guessed that) and I will not vote for Kerry in November if he secures the nomination. To change Rogers' formulation somewhat, I'd vote for Homer Simpson before I'd vote for John Kerry.

Toni Onley 1928-2004

Sad news. Toni Onley died Sunday when his seaplane crashed in the Fraser River.
